100 Ways to Wear a Flag
Above: Alicia Framis, China Five Stars, 100 Ways to Wear a Flag, 2007 September 14 080914http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjQ5MTcwMDQ=.html终于看到通哥唱歌了,是暖场,很卖力。 city
[Image: Photo by Gigi Cifali; view larger].There was an interesting overlap the other week between Time Out London's cover story, "Swim City," about London's "best pools, ponds and lidos," and Polar Inertia's newest issue featuring beautiful photographs of abandoned swimming pools throughout the greater London area. [Image: Photo by Gigi Cifali; view larger]."Great pools?" Time Out asked. "From marble-clad baths dripping in history to modern leisure centres echoing with lifeguards' whistles, London is swimming in them." Except, of course, many of its pools are also drained and forgotten. [Image: Photo by Gigi Cifali; view larger].The photos here are all by Gigi Cifali, who originally trained as a topographer, from a series called "Absence of Water." The images document the disused pools of London – and there are many more of these photos to be seen over at Polar Inertia or on Cifali's own website. ![]() [Images: Photos by Gigi Cifali; view larger: top and bottom].I'm reminded, though, of a great line from J.G. Ballard's novel Empire of the Sun:
July 16 Type the Sky
Type the Sky by Lisa Rienermann is an alphabet formed of shapes buildings make against the sky when photographed from below.
According to the original post on German typographic blog Slanted (we spotted it on designboom), the alphabet was created by Rienermann while studying at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
“It began with the Q,” she tells Slanted. “I was in a kind of courtyard in Barcelona. I looked upward and saw houses, the blue sky and clouds. The more I looked, I saw that the houses formed a letter Q.”
The following is translated from Slanted’s original German: “She then set out to find more letterforms, spending weeks only looking upwards. The more difficult letters such as Q and K were the easiest to find, she says, but admits that PhotoShop helped here and there.”
The alphabet was presented in a booklet contained in a box (we think, our German isn’t so good).
引用 亲历5.12(二) May 09 Evolution by Nacho Carbonell又是某种设计
Milan 08: Spanish designer Nacho Carbonell exhibited his Evolution chairs at Spazio Rossana Orlandi.
The collection includes three seats made from paper mache with chicken-wire frames: a chair with a cave-like bulge that a person can climb inside for contemplation (above); a public bench with a chamber at one end for an individual to escape into (top image); and a lovers seat to allow for both public and private behaviour between a couple (below).
Watch a video about the making of the chairs here.
